Gorakhpur Lions secured their second win of the season over Kasi Rudras in the 28th game of the UP T20 League 2023 on Wednesday (September 13). On the other hand, Meerut Mavericks strengthened their top rank with another win over Lucknow Falcons. Both these competitions were hosted by Green Park, Kanpur. After losing the toss in the 28th match of the season, Gorakhpur Lions got a chance to bat first. Openers Abhishek Goswami and Dhruv Jurel smashed all the bowlers around the park and put up an opening partnership of 137 runs.
Jurel made his highest individual score of the season with 90 runs. Dipanshu Yadav took two wickets for Rudras. In reply, Kashi Rudras could not play a big innings despite Karan Sharma’s top score of 80 runs off 45 balls. They could only score 183/7 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by 18 runs. Abdul Rahman-VI was the standout bowler for the Lions taking three wickets. In the 29th match of the league, Meerut won the toss and decided to bat first. For Mavericks, captain Madhav Kaushik played an unbeaten inning of 84 runs on 52 balls.
Keeper Uvaish Ahmed provided good support to Kaushik and took the team’s score to 193/8 in 20 overs. Zeeshan Ansari took four wickets for Lucknow Lucknow Falcons batsmen, who came to chase the target, failed to make an impact, and kept losing their wickets at regular intervals. In the end, Lucknow could score only 102 runs in 15.2 overs and lost the match by 91 runs. Kuldeep Kumar, Yash Garg, and Abhinav Tiwari were the top bowlers for Meerut, taking three wickets each.

Dhruv Jurel (Gorakhpur Lions)
Lions keeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel scored 90 runs in 49 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 183.67. A brilliant ball from Dipanshu Yadav ended the innings 10 runs short of Jurel’s century.
