The all-important ODI World Cup is less than a week away from going all guns blazing. The tournament will kick off on October 5 and it comes to a close on November 19. It will be quite interesting to see which team utilizes the resources properly to win the World Cup this time around. Australia won the ODI World Cup five times whereas Team India and West Indies won the ODI World Cup twice.
On the other hand, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan won an ODI World Cup each. Sadly, West Indies failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their cricketing venture in the wake of their disastrous performance in the World Cup qualifier.
As many as 10 teams will be making their presence count in the upcoming edition of the World Cup and before that, the teams will play the warm-up games to get acclimatized to the conditions. Since the World Cup is around the corner, several experts have been chipping in with interesting predictions.
Yuvraj Singh picks the semi-finalists for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh made the headlines after he named four teams that he thinks will make it to the semis of the mega event. According to the 2011 ODI World Cup winner, the likes of India, Australia, England and New Zealand are the favourites to make it to the semi-finals.
At the same time, he also rated South Africa as a strong contender where he spoke highly of Proteas about their telling impact in the past tournaments. South Africa are one of the teams that are yet to win the ODI World Cup despite having key players at their disposal.
Team India will enter the tournament as the favourites and the Men in Blue will begin their campaign on October 8, Sunday. The Men in Blue will play against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
“Obviously Team India, Australia will be there (Semifinals). I will pick 5 teams as there is always an upset in the ODI World Cup. India, Australia, New Zealand, England and I just feel South Africa is due. They need a white ball trophy,” he told The Week.
