2 Indians who piled up the most fifty-plus scores in an ODI World Cup-compressed

There is no better feeling than piling up plenty of runs for the team, especially in the ODI World Cup tournament. Every batsman dreams of performing at a high level to help the team add flesh to the scoreboard.

In the history of Indian cricket, several batsmen did their bit to help the team in decisive moments. India are one of the most successful teams in the ODI World Cup as they won two honours in 1983 and 2011 respectively.

India won the first ODI World Cup under the guidance of legendary Kapil Dev as India beat the mighty West Indies to win the maiden World Cup. After 28 years, India scripted history by beating Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final to win the second title.

Let’s learn more about the two Indians who mustered the most fifty-plus scores in an ODI World Cup.

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is widely acknowledged as the greatest-ever batsman to have played the sport. The Indian batting maestro is the record-leading run-scorer in international cricket with a record 34,357 runs. It is worth noting that he is the only cricketer to have smashed 100 international centuries (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs).

Notably, he holds the record for scoring the most runs in an ODI World Cup as he mustered 673 runs in the 2003 edition of the World Cup. He also holds the record for scoring seven fifty-plus scores, the most by a batsman in an ODI World Cup.

2. Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma comes second on the list as he accumulated 6 fifty-plus scores in an ODI World Cup history, the second-most by an Indian cricketer in the marquee event. Rohit Sharma accomplished the feat in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

He scored 648 runs in the 2019 edition of the World Cup and ended up as the leading run-scorer of that tournament. It is worth mentioning here that he is the only batsman to have scored three double centuries in ODI cricket.
