Sri Lankan national cricket team used to be a formidable force to be reckoned with in international cricket. However, once the greats retired from the sport, the team took a big hit in terms of overall performance. They were unable to match the top teams’ aggression.
In fact, they are going through a transition process where players are on the learning curve to gain a considerable amount of experience under their belt. Notably, the Sri Lanka cricket team’s recent achievement was beating Pakistan in the final to win the Asia Cup 2022 tournament.
Sri Lanka went on to lift the sixth Asia Cup title, the second-most by any team after Team India (seven titles). Case in point, Sri Lanka have been performing pretty decently well in Test cricket. Although they haven’t been getting the right results of late, they played the sport with a great deal of intent.
Case in point, let’s take a look at the two Sri Lankans who maintained a batting average in excess of 50 in the longest format since 2020 (minimum 20 innings).
1. Dinesh Chandimal
Dinesh Chandimal has been the most consistent batsman for the Sri Lankan cricket team as far as the longest format of the game is concerned. The right-handed batsman picked up the lessons on the go and has shown improvement by putting up scintillating performances.
Notably, he possesses the highest Test batting average of 55.4 as a Sri Lankan since 2020 (minimum 20 innings). Having been part of Test cricket since 2011, he has scored 5231 runs in 74 Tests. He has maintained a pretty good batting average of 44.3 including 1 double century, 14 centuries and 25 half-centuries.

2. Dimuth Karunaratne
Dimuth Karunaratne has been making waves in Test cricket for a long time now. He has played several impactful knocks for the team when it mattered the most. This is precisely the reason why he is considered one of the best Test openers in the world. The 35-year-old has been playing Tests since 2012.
Notably, he scored 6524 runs at an average of 41.3 including 1 double century, 16 centuries and 34 half-centuries. Dimuth Karunaratne has the second-best batting average of 55.3 in Tests since 2020 (Minimum 20 innings).
