Asia Cup is one of the significant competitions conducted by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the first edition was played in the year 1984. Since then, as many as 16 editions were played. Out of the 16 editions, 14 of them were played in the form of ODI format whereas the rest of the two editions were played in T20I format.
Among the Asian nations, Team India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have tasted the Asia Cup glory. Team India are the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup as they have won as many as eight trophies (seven in One-Day Internationals and once in Twenty20 Internationals).
On the other side of the coin, Sri Lanka won six titles (five in ODIs and once in T20Is) whereas the Pakistan national cricket team won two Asia Cup titles (both in ODIs). On the other hand, the Bangladesh cricket team finished the tournament as the runners-up on three occasions but failed to lift the trophy.
Winning the final is the most important thing. The major part of the success goes to the captain as he plays a part in making the appropriate field placements, rotating the bowlers at the right time and leading the team.
