The cricket fraternity has witnessed several batters carving out an identity for themselves while playing in home conditions. On the other hand, things go quite the opposite when they play in overseas conditions. Not many players go on to attain desirable results with respect to unfamiliar climes.
Talking specifically about the Indian cricketers, they tend to bat well at home but not many go on to thrive in overseas conditions, which has been the case for several years. Case in point, playing against the West Indies in West Indies has been quite a challenge.
The Caribbean pitches are known for pace, bounce, and lateral movement. The pitches can be literally tougher for the batsmen, particularly those who are not used to playing on fast and bouncy tracks. In this article, we will now take a glimpse at the three Indians who aggregated 50+ scores in their first two ODIs in West Indies.
1. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane was the first Indian cricketer to aggregate 50+ scores in his first two ODIs against West Indies in West Indies. He scored 62 and 103 in the first two ODIs during India’s tour of West Indies back in 2017. Rahane’s last ODI appearance came against South Africa in 2018. Since then, he has been out of the selectors’ radar in ODIs. He scored 2962 runs in 90 ODIs at an average of 35.3 including 3 centuries and 24 fifties.

2. Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer’s cricketing career has often been blighted due to untimely injuries. As a result, the talented right-handed batsman couldn’t strengthen his case as a regular feature for India. Shreyas Iyer scored 71 and 65 during India’s tour of West Indies in 2019. He became the second Indian to score fifty-plus scores in his first two ODIs in West Indies. Iyer scored 1631 runs at an average of 46.6 including 2 centuries and 14 fifties.
3. Ishan Kishan
India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan etched his name into record books after he became the third Indian to chip in with consecutive fifty-plus scores in his first two ODIs in West Indies. Ishan Kishan scored 52 and 55 during India’s tour of West Indies in 2023.
