Scoring runs in Test cricket is the real deal because the red ball used in this format swings a lot more when compared to the white ball used in the limited overs. As a result, facing the new ball can be really tough for the batters in the purest format of the game.
While scoring plenty of runs in Test cricket is considered one of the toughest challenges, scoring runs at a rate of knots is even more challenging. However, some batters have defied the odds and went on to create milestones. Let’s now get to know more about the three Indians who scored the fastest fifty in a Test inning.
1. Rishabh Pant
India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant etched his name into record books when he became the fastest Indian to score a fifty in a Test inning. Notably, he achieved the feat in just 28 balls.
He accomplished this landmark against Sri Lanka in the Bengaluru Test in 2022. Rishabh Pant shattered Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old record to score the fastest half-century by an Indian in Test cricket.

2. Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev comes next on the list as he scored the second-fastest fifty in a Test inning. For the record, he held the record of scoring the fastest fifty in a Test inning but was broken by Rishabh Pant, 40 years later.
In 1982, Kapil Dev scored fifty against the Pakistan cricket team. He scored the half-century off just 30 balls in Karachi, which is also the fastest fifty by an Indian in Pakistan.
3. Virender Sehwag
The former Indian opening batter has been immensely successful as far as the longest format of the game is concerned. The Nawab Najafgarh usually plays an attacking brand of cricket, irrespective of the format.
The former India’s successful opener scored the third-fastest fifty as an Indian during the 2008 Test against England in Chennai, which is also the fastest fifty by an Indian against England where he achieved the landmark in 32 deliveries.
