Former West Indies captain Brian Lara is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batters of all time. Brian Lara comes second on the list as he has 65 top scores in a Test inning.

3. Sunil Gavaskar

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the second leading run-scorer for the West Indies behind Brian Lara. He is also featured on this list as he has 60 top scores in a Test inning.

5. Joe Root

Former England Test captain Joe Root has been in scintillating form in the longest format of the game. He has 59 top scores in a Test inning.

6. Alastair Cook

Former England captain Alastair Cook is widely regarded as one of the best Test batters of all time. He comes next on the list with 58 top scores in a Test inning.

7. Kumar Sangakkara

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara is regarded as a profound batter in international cricket. He has 58 top scores in a Test inning.
