Sri Lankan cricket team used to be a phenomenal force to be reckoned with on the international stage. They have had plenty of superstars at their disposal who were capable of causing all sorts of trouble to the opposition teams. They won the ICC ODI World Cup back in 1996 under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga.
Sri Lanka defeated Australia in the final to win their maiden ODI World Cup. Sri Lanka won their maiden T20 World Cup back in 2014 by beating Team India in the final showdown. Sri Lanka also shared the ICC Champions Trophy 2022 with India since the final was washed out without a ball being bowled due to rain.
Case in point, scoring 10,000 runs in both Tests and ODIs is considered an extraordinary achievement. The cricket fraternity has witnessed a plethora of world-class batters who created many records. However, only seven players in the history of the sport have scored 10,000 runs both in Tests and ODIs and two of them are Sri Lankans.
1. Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, courtesy of his impeccable achievements for Sri Lanka. Notably, he is the second-leading run-scorer in international cricket with 28016 runs.
He is one of the two batsmen from Sri Lanka to have reached 10,000 runs in Tests and ODIs. It is worth noting that he scored 12,400 runs in Tests and 14,234 runs in the 50-over format.

2. Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Sri Lanka immensely benefitted from his services during the playing days of his cricketing venture.
The Sri Lankan batting great is the other big name who reached 10,000 runs in Tests and ODIs. The former Sri Lankan cricketer scored 11814 runs in Tests and 12,650 runs in ODIs. Overall, he scored 25,957 runs in international cricket.
