The Sri Lankan national cricket team were a formidable force to be reckoned with in international cricket. They had plenty of superstars in their arsenal who were capable of churning out positive results, more often than not. Notably, Sri Lanka won their first ODI World Cup by getting the better of Australia in the 1996 World Cup under Arjuna Ranatunga’s captaincy.
Besides that, Sri Lanka also won the maiden T20 World Cup title by beating Team India in the 2014 edition. On the other hand, they are the second-most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup competition. It is worth mentioning here that they have won as many as six titles, one less than the record holders, Team India.
The first Asia Cup tournament was first held in 1984 in Sharjah, UAE. The tournament is organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), a regional governing body for cricket in Asia. Ever since the inception of the Asia Cup, only two batsmen have completed 1000 runs in the tournament and notably, two of them are from Sri Lanka.
1. Sanath Jayasuriya
Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. The Sri Lankan batting great dominated the Asia Cup by scoring the most runs for his team. Notably, he scored 1220 runs at an average of 53.04 in 25 matches including six centuries and three half-centuries. He registered his best score of 130 off 88 balls against Bangladesh in 2008 in Karachi.

2. Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. The former Sri Lankan skipper is the second-leading run-scorer in international cricket. He comes second on the list as he scored 1075 runs at an average of 48.86 including four centuries and eight fifties. Kumar Sangakkara registered his best score of 121 against the Bangladesh cricket team in 2008 in Karachi.
