2 Indians who scored the Most Runs against Australia in a Test Match-compressed

Australia have always been a thorn for India in international cricket. History tells us that Aussies have caused so many troubles to the Indian cricketers (Men and Women). Winning against Australia has never been that easy. They always seem to assemble in full force and perform collectively to outsmart India altogether.

On the other hand, India have often relied on individuals to perform most of the time, which doesn’t work all the time. However, when the Indian cricket team were on the receiving end in a Test match against Australia, two batters always turned up when it really matters the most.

Let’s now learn about the two Indians who accumulated the most runs against Australia in a Test match.

1. VVS Laxman

During the second Test against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2000/01, India were bundled out for just 171 runs in response to Australia’s 445. When Australia enforced a follow-on, they didn’t know India would make an epic comeback.

VVS Laxman rose from the ashes and produced his career-best performance as he chipped in with a magnificent 281 against the mighty Aussies. Rahul Dravid also scored an impeccable 180 in the second innings (following on) and helped India to post 657/7 declared.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for 212. Notably, India won the game by an innings and 171 runs. VVS Laxman was named the Man of the Match for his marvellous knock. VVS Laxman scored 59 in the first innings. Overall, he finished with 340 runs in a match, the most by any cricketer against Australia in a Test match.

2. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Popularly known as “The Wall of Indian Cricket”, Rahul Dravid comes next with 305 runs against Australia in 2003 in Adelaide.

Australia posted 556 with the help of Ricky Ponting’s 242. India responded with 523 in the first innings with the help of Rahul Dravid’s incredible 233. Besides that, he scored a match-winning unbeaten 72* in the fourth innings and guided India to a magnificent win.

India won the game by four wickets in the Adelaide Test. Rahul Dravid was adjudged the Player of the Match for his impeccable batting masterclass.
