You don’t expect an individual to shine and come out on top in cricket because it’s a team game. The better the team operates as a collective force, it becomes much easier for them to win games. Case in point, building a partnership is so vital for the batting team.

It only gives confidence to the batting pair but also to the whole team as well. There is always a sense of big relief when a batting pair put up a huge partnership. In the cash-rich IPL, there were several batting pairs that put up memorable partnerships since IPL 2008.

The lucrative Indian Premier League has completed 15 editions so far and the sixteenth edition of the IPL is nearing its final stages. Now, in this article, let’s take a look at the top four batting pairs with the most partnership runs in an IPL season.

1. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers

Royal Challengers Bangalore largely benefitted from the services of both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. While AB de Villiers has retired from all forms of the game, Virat Kohli is continuing to deliver the goods for the RCB franchise. The duo holds the record for constructing the most partnership runs in an IPL season – 936 runs in IPL 2016.

2. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis have been carrying the batting department for RCB this season. The powerful batting duo scored 800 runs together in the IPL 2023 season. They have a chance to even surpass the record partnership of 936* set by Kohli and AB de Villiers in IPL 2016.

4. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have had fruitful partnerships together at Chennai Super Kings. While Gaikwad plays for CSK, Faf du Plessis is the captain of RCB. In IPL 2021 season, the duo added 756 runs together, which is the most in that season.
