5 Players who scored Most Runs as Captain in an Asia Cup tournament-compressed

There have been several captains who made a telling impact for their respective times by scoring a significant number of runs in the Asia Cup tournament. The cricket fraternity witnessed many talents making waves with the bat in the Asia Cup and some of the skippers of the teams went on to script history as well.

When a captain leads effectively and contributes with the bat, he can be a valuable asset to the team. In this article, we will now go through the names of five players who scored the most runs as captain in an Asia Cup tournament.

1. MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni’s batting legacy is defined by his acumen to remain calm and deliver under pressure and also in clutch moments of the game. Most of the time, MS Dhoni has single-handedly changed the phase of the game, courtesy of his finishing skills in limited-overs cricket. He tops the list as he scored 327 runs in the 2008 edition of the Asia Cup.

2. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is widely regarded as the best opener across formats of international cricket. He comes second on the list as he scored 317 runs in the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup. Under his captaincy, India went on to win the Asia Cup title as well.

3. Arjuna Ranatunga

Arjuna Ranatunga is one of the most prominent figures in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. He scored 272 runs in the 1997 edition of the Asia Cup tournament, the most by a captain in that edition of the continental event.

4. Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi is often referred to as Boom Boom Afridi, courtesy of his explosive and aggressive batting approach. The former Pakistani all-rounder finished the 2010 edition of the Asia Cup with 265, the most by a captain in that edition of the continental event.

5. Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the sport. The former Indian skipper had some impressive performances with the bat as the captain in the Asia Cup. He finished the 2004 edition of the Asia Cup with 244 runs, which is the most runs by a captain in that edition of the Asia Cup.
