A captain is responsible for leading the team from the front, scoring runs for the team and making tactical changes, proper field placements and so on. Being a skipper isn’t that easy as pressure is always high till the end of the match or the tournament.
On the other hand, captains need to handle pressure situations quite effectively. More importantly, scoring runs under pressure can well and truly motivate and boost the morale of the team in the first place. There have been many players who led the Indian cricket team.
However, only a few names like MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli led the team for quite a long time. Rohit Sharma will also be joining them on the list in the future. At times, some other players led the national team in their short stint and impressed the fans with their overall performances.
In this article, let’s go through the names of two Indian captains who won the Player of the Series in their T20I debut series.
1. Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina was a respected figure in the Indian cricket team during the playing days of his cricketing career. He is known for his significant contributions as a batsman, fielder and occasional bowler. Overall, he was a top team player.
During India’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2010, he led the team in MS Dhoni’s absence for the two-match T20I series. He finished the series as the leading run-scorer with 100 runs including a match-winning 72* in the second T20I. He was adjudged the Player of the Series award for his batting masterclass in his debut T20I series.

India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been away from cricketing action for close to a year due to an injury. However, after rehabilitation, he finally made a rebound into the national reckoning. The selectors decided to name him as the captain for Ireland T20Is.
Under his T20I debut captaincy, India won the series by 2-0, with the final game getting abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. In his comeback series, Bumrah was named the Player of the Series award for taking 4 wickets in the two T20Is against Ireland.
