Sri Lankan national cricket team were blessed with so many cricketing greats that ruffled the opposition’s feathers for many years. However, once the batting and bowling greats retired from international cricket, Sri Lankan cricket took a big hit and is still on the learning curve to become one of the top teams in international cricket.
Despite the shortcomings in their team, they still managed to come out on top in the Asia Cup 2022 competition. They defeated Pakistan in the final to win their sixth title. Case in point, delivering the goods with both bat and ball is seen as an extraordinary achievement in the game of cricket.
Let’s go through the names of two Sri Lankans who scored a century and took a wicket in an ODI match more than seven times.
1. Sanath Jayasuriya
Sanath Jayasuriya is widely acknowledged as one of the finest cricketers of all time. He made an impact with the bat and ball in international cricket. On top of that, he performed incredibly well in One-Day Internationals and is best known for his potential to score runs at a rapid pace.
Jayasuriya comes first on the list as he has scored a century and took a wicket on 15 occasions, more than any other player in the history of ODIs. Overall, he scored 13,430 runs in the 50-over format at an average of 32.4 including 28 centuries and 68 half-centuries. Notably, he took 323 wickets including 4 fifers in ODIs.

2. Tillakaratne Dilshan
Tillakaratne Dilshan has been one of the most highly-rated players in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. He has played many impactful knocks in the run-chases which helped the team win games. During his playing days, he held his nerves and mounted pressure on the opposition with an aggressive approach.
Apart from his batting credentials, he has been a handy spinner who took 106 wickets in ODIs. Notably, he is the other Sri Lankan who scored a century and took a wicket on eight occasions. On the other hand, he scored 10,290 runs in ODIs at an average of 39.3 including 22 centuries and 47 fifties.
