Ben Killed Me in The Slips" - Jofra Archer Reacts to Stokes Dropping Steve Smith on Day Five of The Fifth Ashes Test

England fast bowler Jofra Archer reacts candidly after Steve Smith was dropped by captain Ben Stokes on the fifth day of the fifth Ashes Test at the Kia Oval on Monday, July 31, 2023. The England captain lost control of the ball as he started celebrating the catch at leg gully. The incident took place in the 66th over of Australia’s second innings, the last over before lunch. England spinner Moeen Ali got one to turn and bounce that hit Smith on the glove.

The ball bounced straight into the air. Ben Stokes jumped down the leg gully and took the catch, but when Stokes’s right hand touched his right knee as he started to celebrate, the ball bounced.

Archer Tweeted:

“Ben in slip kills me.”

Significantly, Ben Stokes had earlier dismissed Australian captain Pat Cummins in the opening Test. The right-handed batsman stitched a match-winning ninth-wicket partnership with Nathan Lyon to take Australia 1-0 up in the five-match series.
